NetFix Privacy Policy
Summary
- No account, no sign-up, no developer server. Nothing is sent to the developer.
- No analytics, ads, tracking or third-party SDKs.
- Incident history stays on your Mac.
- The Location permission is used only to show the Wi-Fi name (SSID). No location coordinates are read or stored.
- Public IP lookup is off by default. Only when you turn it on does the app contact an IP lookup service.
This page describes how NetFix 1.0 (the “app”), a macOS app made by WEFTWARE (the “developer”), handles information. It applies to both the Mac App Store edition and the directly distributed edition. It is not legal advice; when the app changes, this page changes with it.
1. Information the developer collects
None. The app has no account, sign-in, developer server, analytics, crash reporter, ads or third-party SDK. It does not send usage data or device identifiers to the developer.
2. Information stored only on your Mac
| Information | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Network state: interfaces, IP addresses, routes, gateway, DNS, proxy, DHCP | Diagnosis and incident history | Inside incidents; deleted automatically after the retention period (30 days by default) |
| Wi-Fi name (SSID) and BSSID (if Location is allowed) | Wi-Fi status and incident history | Inside incidents; hidden in diagnostic reports by default |
| Traffic rates | Menu bar and graphs | Memory only, except the samples inside an incident |
| App settings | Keeping your settings | The app’s settings storage on this Mac |
The Mac App Store edition keeps this in its app container (~/Library/Containers/<app identifier>/); the direct edition uses ~/Library/Application Support/NetFix/. Use Settings › “Delete All History” to remove it at any time.
3. Network requests the app makes
Checking connectivity requires contacting a few internet addresses. These requests carry no account, cookie or device identifier. As with any internet request, the receiver sees the public IP address it came from.
| Destination | Purpose | When |
|---|---|---|
1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare), 8.8.8.8 (Google), IPv6 2606:4700:4700::1111 | Reachability and latency (ping) | Periodic checks (every 30 s when healthy); targets can be changed in Settings |
www.apple.com | DNS and HTTPS checks | Periodic checks; can be changed in Settings |
captive.apple.com | Detecting Wi-Fi that needs a login (captive portal) | During checks |
api.ipify.org, ipv4.icanhazip.com, ifconfig.me (next one only if the previous fails) | Showing your public IP | Off by default. Only after you turn it on in Settings › Privacy |
ipinfo.io | Country of your public IP | Off by default. Only if turned on together with public IP lookup |
| Apple App Store (StoreKit) | NetFix Pro product info, purchase, restore | At launch and when you buy or restore (Mac App Store edition) |
When public IP lookup is off, the app sends nothing to those lookup services and forgets any address already fetched. Those services may keep request logs under their own policies.
Direct edition only: the on-demand macOS networkQuality speed test connects to Apple’s measurement servers. Per-process traffic (nettop) and the Tailscale status check run only on this Mac.
4. Permissions
- Location: macOS requires Location permission for apps to see the Wi-Fi name (SSID). NetFix asks only when you press “Request Location Permission” in Wi-Fi details or Settings, never at first launch. It does not read, store or send location coordinates. If you don’t allow it, only SSID and BSSID show “Permission Required”; everything else works.
- Notifications: requested only when you press “Allow Notifications” in onboarding or Settings. Used only for outage and recovery alerts.
- Open at login: off by default; registered only when you turn it on in Settings.
- Saving files: diagnostic reports are written only to a location you choose.
5. Diagnostic reports
A report is created only when you copy or save it, and goes only where you paste or send it. By default it hides your public IP, MAC addresses, BSSID, SSID and host name. Original values are included only if you turn on “Include sensitive information”.
6. Purchases (NetFix Pro)
NetFix Pro is a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store. Apple handles payment; the developer cannot see your payment method or Apple Account. The app checks Apple-signed purchase records on your Mac and does not send them to any developer server. Refunds are requested from Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com).
7. Retention and deletion
- Incidents are deleted automatically after the retention period (30 days by default). Settings › “Delete All History” removes them immediately.
- On macOS, moving the app to the Trash can leave data in its container. To remove everything, run “Delete All History” before deleting the app, or delete the NetFix folder in
~/Library/Containers/. - The developer keeps no user data, so there is no server data to request deletion of.
8. Children
NetFix is not directed at children and collects no one’s personal information.
9. Changes
When this policy changes, the date on this page is updated. If a change would add any data collection, it will also be announced in the app’s update notes.
